Good questions and yes you do need to update drivers to keep up with the latest and best. If the driver is for hardware on your computer go to your Control Panel, open System and then open Hardware and then click the button to open Device Manager.Right click on any item you want to update and then left click on "Update Driver". 

Follow the prompts and you will need to be connected to the Internet. If you require drivers for your printer, scanners, camera etc then log onto the maker site and look for something such as Support - All makers offers drivers free of charge, it just mye take some time looking around their site for them.
